The Donor's Journey

We consider our donor forms to be our primary teachers, and we are continually humbled by what we learn from each of them. Follow along a hypothetical donor journey, based on our real and authentic experiences learning from these unique forms.

Willed Body Donation

The gift of valuable knowledge

A person has decided that they would like donate their body upon their passing to our lab for anatomical study. They have contacted our facility, signed our donation packet and made arrangements with their preferred funeral home to facilitate transport to our lab. Upon their passing, their executor reaches out to us at the lab.

We now await their arrival. Our studies at the lab depend on Willed Body Donations such as this one. This person's legacy will now live on as their body becomes a teacher in our lab.

Upon arriving at the lab, our new donor teacher is stored in our facility's affectionately named "Teacher's Lounge".

We prepare our donor, performing expert dissection to highlight various elements of the human form. Every unique variation of this donor is providing us valuable insight into the complexity of the human body.

This week we have a group of EMT's coming to study the human body so that they may better assist the living in their work. Our new teacher will go on to provide teaching to this class, and will later be helping us teach a group of students from the massage school.

Preparations for an amazing learning experience

The Teaching
Begins

Life-impacting insights are gained

First to meet our new Teacher is a group of Emergency Medical Technicians or EMT's. They're here as part of a class that's designed to not only expand their knowledge of human anatomy, but also to engage in a unique opportunity to practice life-saving medical techniques. We learn that one of our participants had previously studied at the lab as a younger student and has now returned to further expand his knowledge as a medical professional.

Several weeks later, our Teacher's next class begins. This time we have a group from the local massage school. It is a very unique opportunity for students in programs such as these to learn anatomy at such a high level of anatomy education. This insight allows them to apply this knowledge to their craft, furthering their individual ability to provide future therapies to their patients.

As our studies conclude, we prepare our teacher to return back to their family. The lab covers the cost to have our donor cremated.

The cremated remains are then returned to the Donor's family, and their legacy lives on through the valuable knowledge and teachings they've imparted on our lab and it's particpants.
